Each class incorporates a warm-up, training of proper hip hop technique and combinations using hip hop movements and technique learned in prior classes.
At Elite Dance Academy, we have Hip Hop classes for dancers in kindergarten and older. Each class incorporates a warm-up, training of proper hip hop technique and combinations using hip hop movements and technique learned in prior classes. Dancers’ improvisation skills are further developed in hip hop as well.

Hip Hop dancers like fast paced, stylized and often intricate movement. They are interested in learning technique and tricks such as headstands, handstands and stalls. They enjoy music with a good beat and just want to have FUN! If you find your dancer dancing around the house to their favorite music, they are perfect for a Hip Hop class. This is also a great genre for your dancer to try if they have never taken a dance class before! One of our very popular classes in our Teen Hip Hop that is designed for older dancers who have little to no experience with dance. We also have a Boys Only Hip Hop on our schedule. All of our other classes are co-ed and boys are more than welcome to join them. However, we find that sometimes boys like to have their own crew in the dance room! This is a great option if your dancer is hesitant to try dancing!

We also have combination hip hop for younger dancers. Jazz/Hip Hop is offered to dancers who are in Kindergarten through fifth grade. This Hip Hop combination class allows dancers to try two genres to see which they might like better. It is also a great class to take if your dancer is interested in Hip Hop and Jazz but you are not able to take two separate classes. For our older dancers we also offer Jazz Funk which is a more “funky” style of Jazz that imitates Hip Hop in many ways. If your older dancer is not able to take a Hip Hop class or would like more of a combination class, Jazz Funk is for them!

Hip Hop dancers have a specific dress code that must be followed. Male and female dancers are expected to wear any top, shorts (showing the knee), jazz pants/leggings/sweatpants (NO JEANS or CROP TOPS), non-marking tennis shoes or boots. These requirements allow instructors to better see body placement of the dancer and therefore give them accurate critiques. Dressing for a Hip Hop class also makes a dancer feel more confident when they feel cool and comfortable in what they are wearing.

Each Hip Hop teacher at Elite Dance Academy is professionally trained and passionate about helping our dancers learn and grow in the Hip Hop genre and would LOVE to have your dancer in class.

Not sure if Hip Hop is right for your dancer? Take a trial class and let’s find out together!
