As we head into our final competition of the season, there is a familiar mix of excitement, nerves, and pride that fills our studio. Costumes are ready, routines are polished, and our dancers are prepared to take the stage one more time. This past weekend, alongside many incredible achievements like Top 10 placements, choreography awards, and costume recognitions, we were honored with something that, to us, rises above all the rest: the Studio Culture Award.
When the award was announced, one of our younger dancers quietly said, “Whoa… that’s two in a row,” in a way that made it feel like it wasn’t that big of a deal. In that moment, Miss Sunny paused and gently stepped in. She said something that perfectly captures who we are at Elite Dance Academy: “That’s the most important award we receive.”
And she meant it.
Because while trophies and titles celebrate what our dancers do, the Studio Culture Award celebrates who they are.
This award is given based on how dancers and staff treat others throughout the entire competition experience. It recognizes kindness, encouragement, and respect. It reflects studios whose dancers cheer for others backstage, support their teammates, and take responsibility for their environment, even down to cleaning up after themselves.
In a competitive world that can sometimes lean toward comparison and pressure, this award stands for something bigger. It represents the choice to go above and beyond.
And this particular competition asked even more of our dancers.
One of our team members experienced an injury that prevented her from competing. In the middle of a busy and demanding weekend, our dancers were asked to adjust quickly. Routines were reworked, spacing changed, and roles shifted. But what stood out was not just their ability to adapt.
It was how they showed up for their teammate.
There was empathy. There was encouragement. There was a shared understanding that this moment was bigger than any single performance. They rallied around her with care, even though she couldn’t come, while still rising to meet the moment on stage.
That is Above and Beyond.
At Elite, this value is not just something we talk about. It is something we teach on purpose. We believe in strong technique, powerful performance, and excellent training. But we also believe that character is what carries our dancers forward in life.
A great turn might earn applause. A strong work ethic and kind heart will open doors long after the music ends.
That is why moments like this matter. When a dancer does not yet understand the weight of an award like Studio Culture, we take the time to explain it. We slow down and help them see the bigger picture, because that is where real growth happens.
We are not just building dancers. We are developing leaders.
Leadership does not always look like being in the front. Sometimes it looks like lifting someone else up. Sometimes it looks like choosing encouragement over comparison. Sometimes it looks like doing the right thing when no one is watching.
Going above and beyond also shows up in the way we guide each dancer’s journey.
At Elite, there is no single path that works for every child. Each dancer is different, and so is their experience. For some, it means adding another class to build strength in a specific area. For others, it may mean exploring a competitive team or choosing a non competitive option that better supports their goals and confidence.
We take great pride in walking alongside families through those decisions.
Sometimes that means celebrating exciting next steps. Other times it means having honest conversations when a different direction may better support a child’s growth. Those conversations are not always easy, but they are necessary.
Because going above and beyond does not mean saying yes to everything. It means doing what is right for the child in front of us.
It means thinking long term.
It means choosing development over short term recognition.
It means leading with both care and clarity.
As we head into our final show of this season, we carry all of this with us. Every routine, every moment backstage, and every interaction is an opportunity to live out what we believe.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work all of our dancers have put in this season and the recognition they have earned both on and off stages.
But if you ask us what success truly looks like, it is this.
A dancer who celebrates her teammate’s win as if it were her own.
A team that adapts with grace when things do not go as planned.
A group of kids who leave a space better than they found it.
A studio that chooses kindness in a competitive environment.
A young dancer who begins to understand that who she is becoming matters more than any trophy she could hold.
That is Above and Beyond.
And that is what we will continue to stand for, on the stage, in the studio, and in the lives of every child we are honored to teach.
